Thousands of homes set for fibre connectivity in the Czech Republic

Slovenia’s Kontron’s Iskratel Innbox X24 and Iskratel Innbox G23 are to be deployed in CETIN’s network rollout in the Czech Republic.

More than 100,000 households in the Czech Republic are set to benefit from faster and more reliable fibre connectivity thanks to a multi-million EUR partnership.

Wholesale Czech operator CETIN has partnered with Kontron Transportation and will deliver broadband routers and modems from Slovenia’s Kontron, a Kontron Group company and sister company of Kontron Transportation. Slovenia’s Kontron has designed and manufactured the Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) and broadband access products that will be rolled out to the region over the next three years.

“This partnership marks a significant milestone in CETIN’s mission to deliver cutting-edge telecommunications solutions across the Czech Republic,” CETIN Chairman of the Board of Directors Juraj Šedivý said. “Leveraging Kontron’s innovative technology will help us speed up the modernisation of our network, ensuring that Czech households and businesses experience the highest levels of speed, reliability, and performance.”

The agreement between CETIN and Kontron Transportation was signed at Kontron Transportation’s premises in Prague.

“I am very happy to sign this contract with CETIN, which provides us with a good opportunity to extend our existing activities and grow our presence in the telecommunications sector,” Kontron Transportation member of management Ing. Karel Feix said. “It is important for us to have such a prestigious customer as CETIN, which is the provider of the largest telecommunication network in Czechia.”

Residents will be able to enjoy a greater user experience and access data rates of up to 10 Gbps leveraging XGS-PON technology.

“We are very proud to have made a breakthrough in the European Union markets – now also in the Czech Republic, following the projects in Austria, Spain and Germany last year,” Slovenia’s Kontron Executive Director Business Unit Broadband Svjetlana Kalaba stressed. “I am confident that our XGS-PON Customer-Premises Equipment (CPE) and its advanced management with integrated speed test will easily and seamlessly be integrated into CETIN’s XGS-PON network.

“We trust that it will be key to providing CETIN’s customers with ultra-fast, reliable Internet access and a first-class user experience in hundreds of thousands of homes and offices across the Czech Republic,” concluded Kalaba. “With nearly five million properties across the Czech Republic, households now have the opportunity to enjoy faster, ubiquitous connectivity.”
